The ANGELIC UPSTARTS are back with a bang !

With their current s line up, consisting of Mensi (vocals), Neil Newton (guitar), Dickie Hammond (guitar), Gaz Stoker (bass) and Andrew Laing (drums), who also plays drums in Cockney Rejects, they just recorded six new songs, co-wrote by Mensi and Neil.
This is the first material recorded in over a decade and will be featured on the upcoming ANGELIC UPSTARTS / CRASHED OUT split-album, due to be released on I Hate People Records in November 2011.
 
The ANGELIC UPSTARTS and CRASHED OUT are good friends with each other and both come from the North East of the UK. So, having previously toured together, it was decided that the next step should be to record a new album together. So each band recorded six new songs, making a dozen tracks in total. This is how the title of the split album came about, “The Dirty Dozen”.

Writing for the UPSTARTS’ contribution to the album began just over a year ago and was a long distance affair. Mensi was living overseas at that time, so he emailed lyrics to Neil, who then wrote the music (an exception to this is a track on the album which Neil and Dickie co-wrote). Once Mensi was back in the UK, the band entered Trinity Heights Studio to record their half of “The Dirty Dozen” with Fred Purser (ex Penetration) manning the control desk. A special guest also appears on the album; a certain Mr Decca Wade!  The result is six new ANGELIC UPSTARTS songs. The first new material to have been recorded in over ten years!

The new tracks bear the hallmarks of classic ANGELIC UPSTARTS songs but with a modern edge, both lyrically and musically. Mensi still writes it and sings it like he means it, be in no doubt about that!

Finally, once released, the ANGELIC UPSTARTS and CRASHED OUT will set out on a joint tour to promote the new split album. It is expected that the tour will be throughout much of Europe and the U.S. and discussions are also taking place regarding a visit to Japan.

DER V8 WANKERS-Fronter LÄSST DIE PETTICOATS FLIEGEN!!!!

Egal ob auf dem Kirchenklo, dem Dixi oder in der Hecke - bei WYLDFYRE dreht sich einiges ums Bier. Es sei denn, die Hell's Angels servieren Rotwein.

Mit den V8 WANKERS hat sich Sänger Lutz Vegas nicht nur in der nationalen Schweinerock-Szene einen durchaus respektablen Namen erspielt. Aber was macht der Mann, wenn ihm Bier, Autos, Frauen und die eigene Band nicht mehr genug sind? Ganz klar, er bringt eine weitere Combo an den Start und macht auch zwischen Kontrabass und ursprünglichen Bluesrock-Gitarren eine gute Figur.

Mit SPKE`S ROCKIN 4 war Lutz schon Ende der 80er in einer Rockabilly Band unterwegs. Und jetzt juckts einfach wieder in den Finger: Gemeinsam mit Gitarrist Sudi (Sixes And Sevens), Kontrabasser Marco (Rampires) und Drummer Rockin`Reject (Frantic Flintstones) ruft Lutz im SDommer 2011WYLDFYRE wieder ins Leben.

1987 bis ’89 sang Lutz Vegas, auch bekannt als Frontmann der V8 WANKERS, in einer jungen Frankfurter Neo Rockabilly Formation namens SPKE`S ROCKIN 4. 1991, zwei Jahre nach ihrer Auflösung, fand sich  die Band noch einmal im Studio zusammen um sieben ihrer eigenen Kompositionen aufzunehmen. Vier dieser sieben Stücke wurden noch im selben Jahr auf Crawfishin Records als „Finally EP“ veröffentlicht und gingen europaweit 1000 mal über die Ladentische der Vinylspezialisten und Rockabilly Mailorder.

Nun, 20 Jahre später, werden erstmals alle sieben Songs in remastertem Sound veröffentlicht und treffen dabei auf Lutz Vegas’ aktuelles Rockabilly Projekt WYLDFYRE, das er 2006 ins Leben rief.

“7 brand new hits with grit plus 7 blasts from the past” sind 14 gute Gründe um mit Lutz Vegas 20 Jahre Rock n Roll Studio Recording und 5 Jahre WYLDFYRE zu feiern.

WYLDFYRE –WYLDFYRE REVISIT SPIKES ROCKIN 4  LP/CD

Ein unbeschriebenes Blatt ist der Sänger dieser Combo ganz sicher nicht. Hinlänglich bekannt ist er als Sänger der Volldampf-Rocker der V8 Wankers. Während sich die V8 Wankers jedoch dem Speed-Rock verschrieben haben, geht es bei Wyldfyre eher traditionell zu Werke. Saftiger Rock´n´Roll oder auch Rockabilly mit gepflegter Tradition steht hier im Vordergrund. Mit klapperndem Bass und satter Geschwindigkeit geht es hier quer durch die Musik der 50er Jahre, da wird auch kein Halt gemacht vor Country oder dem ein oder anderen Song auf der Accoustic-Gitarre. Ganz klar das da, wie auch bei der Hauptband, so manches  Rock´n`Roll-Klischee nicht ausgelassen werden darf. Songs mit Namen wie „Hot Rod Queen“ oder „Rock Ink“ zeigen da deutlich wo es lang geht, auf einem musikalisch recht hohen Niveau. Die Jungs haben in der Vergangenheit sicherlich die eine oder andere Rockabilly-Platte ziemlich eifrig gehört und das ganze sauber umgesetzt zu einem frisch wirkenden Sound. Abgehende Stücke wie das treibende „She Sucks (like A Vampire)“ geben sich mit countrylastigen Accousticgitarrensongs bei „FCK(The Only Thing Missing isYou)“ die Klinke in die Hand.  Wobei ich irgendwie das Gefühl habe das ab der zweiten Hälfte des Albums die Instrumente minimalistischeren Sound noch etwas mehr aus den Stücken raus holt. Zu erwähnen wäre da der Song „You Better Be Dead (Before You Get Old)“ der zwar mit Geschwindigkeit nicht geizt, aber etwas dezenter eingesetzt werden und man hier mit einem leicht eine doch spärliche Instrumentierung hat, was dem Song aber entsprechend gut steht. Ich weiß nicht, irgendwie hört sich das für mich an als wenn die Scheibe in zwei verschiedenen Etappen aufgenommen wurde. Wie schon gesagt der erste Teil kommt etwas fetter produziert und mit mehr  E-Gitarren ausgestattet rüber als der Rest der Songs. Wobei mir allerdings der zweite Teil, da er näher am ursprünglichen Rock´n´Roll ist, trotzdem einen Funken besser gefällt. Beides zusammen sorgt dann jedoch ganz gut für angenehme Abwechslung, so dass die CD fein in einem Rutsch durch zu hören ist. Wer modernem Rockabilly gegenüber aufgeschlossen ist, sollte Wyldfyre einfach mal antesten.
